1. Use GOOGLE!

Flights.google.com is a huge lifesaver for me anytime I’m planning a trip. And if you know you want to take a vacation but don’t know where, you can plug in some dates then search the map for what destinations have the best flight deals. It will compare all airlines (with the exception of a few – I’m talking to you, Southwest) and will even suggest changing your trip by a day or two to save some extra cash.

2. Book a hotel straight through their website.

I used to work front desk at a hotel in college, and when people booked directly through us, they were more likely to get a lower rate or extra discounts. Don’t be afraid to call them, either! Of course, that isn’t always the case – but be sure to compare the hotel’s direct booking site along with Expedia, Travelocity, Etc. They might have deals not highlighted on other mass booking websites. If you’re traveling out of country, it might also be easier to book extras, like transportation.

3. Check out alternative accomodations.

I love a good all-inclusive, but one of my favorite vacations was renting an air bnb in the middle of a jungle in Costa Rica. And it cost us each (between 4 of us) a whopping.. $20 a night. I know, right?! Try looking at air bnb or other property rental websites like FlipKey. You’ll get a home or apartment for rent which can be a really nice way to live like the locals at your destination. I styed in a full house in Costa Rica and a super cute apartment in London – no complaints!

So here are my top 3 tips for you to keep in mind when planning your next getaway. Happy travels!
