The Perfect Manicure

Hey yall,

Happy Tuesday! I pretty much took yesterday off from everything, so I’m finding it really, really hard to get motivated today. Sure does feel like Monday!

I used to always have my nails done. And not just polish – but I would pretty much always have a solar set. But lately I just haven’t had the time to get my nails done regularly, and have been doing my own! It was a struggle at first to get my nails to ever look right, but I’m finally starting to get it down. Here are my steps to a perfect manicure:

1. Take off all old polish. This is a biggie for me. I’m a chronic paint-over-old-polish-er. It’s really just laziness, but taking time to start with a clean nail makes all the difference in how your nail polish will apply.

2. Lotion, lotion, lotion. Once I’ve cleaned my nails, I always like to layer on the lotion to moisturize my cuticles.

3. Cut your nails. You might like your nails long, but (at least for me) pretty regularly nails will chip away leaving you with uneven edges. Take the time to cut all of your nails to the same length and shape!

4. Layers are key! I will always use 2-3 coats, even if the polish goes on thick. Then always use a top coat. I love the Sally Hansen gel top coat, whether I’m using the gel polish or not!

And voila! Now you have a manicure to last you. What are your top tips?
